The Cayman Islands were originaly discovered by Europeans when Christopher Columbus visited them in 1503. He called them "Las Tortugas" due to the vast numbers of sea turtles spotted in the area. The name was later changed to Caymanas, a Carib word for crocodile. The islands became a British colony which they remain to this day.

The islands are located about 500 miles south of Miami in the crystal clear waters of the Western Caribbean. They are an eclectic mix, the worlds fifth largest financial center, the birthplace of recreational scuba diving, home of tax free shopping, a staggering array of fish and birds, and stunning white beaches. As a vacation center, the Cayman Islands offer something for nearly everyone.
